Overview & History

The Embraer Legacy 500 is a mid-size business jet built by the Brazilian manufacturer from 2011 to 2020. The Legacy 500 has since been replaced by the Praetor 600.

This was the first aircraft within the mid-size category to feature a flat-floor stand-up cabin and fly-by-wire technology. The Legacy 500 is the sister aircraft to the Legacy 450.

The 500 is slightly longer with room for up to 12 passengers.

The Legacy 500 first took to the skies at the end of 2012 and was certified two years later. The Praetor 600 is the latest variant of the Legacy 500 and boasts an increased range and technology offerings.

The Legacy 500 is not only in direct competition with other midsize aircraft such as the Cessna Citation Sovereign+, but also with super-midsize aircraft such as the G280 and Challenger 350.

At the time of the Praetor 600s introduction to the world, just under 70 Legacy 500 aircraft had been delivered. The majority of aircraft are in the hands of private firms and individuals.

Approximately 70% of all Legacy 500 aircraft are based in North America, with the average mission length being less than 2 hours.

Embraer Legacy 500 Performance

The Legacy 500 is powered by two Honeywell HTF7500E engines with each one producing 7,036 lbf of thrust. This makes the aircraft capable of taking off in just 4,084 feet.

The aircraft is capable of landing with a minimum distance of 2,122 feet.

The Embraer Legacy 500 has a cruise speed of 466 knots and can climb to a maximum altitude of 45,000 feet. In its optimal configuration the aircraft can fly up to 3,125 Nautical Miles (3,596 Miles / 5,787 KM) without needing to refuel.

Embraer Legacy 500 Interior

Embraer have decked out the interior of the Legacy 500 to the highest standards. Despite being developed a decade ago, the interior design remains in vogue.

Having integrated distinguishable elements with a sustainable evolution of the product, the Legacy 500 stands out from the competition. Embraer describe the Legacy 500 as “luxury beyond compare”.

The Legacy 500 perfectly demonstrates Embraer’s attention to detail and expert craftsmanship. The cabin is a spacious 6 feet tall with a fully flat floor.

This makes the cabin that much easier to move around. The furniture-like design of the fully reclining seats provides passengers with superior comfort.

All seats are optimally placed next to windows in order to afford every passenger spectacular views of the world below.

At the front of the cabin you will, as is common, find the galley. The Legacy 500’s wet galley serves as an elegant, welcoming entryway to the aircraft.

At the time of conception the galley was the largest in the midsize segment. Therefore making this the perfect aircraft for paramount dining.

Plenty of space and functionality can be attributed to the stowable tables which open flush to the side ledge. This, in tandem with the functional galley, make the Legacy 500 cabin the perfect place to work, dine and relax.

The Legacy 500 has a very respectable cabin altitude of 5,800 feet when flying at its maximum cruising altitude. Embraer have also worked their magic with the sound insulation in order to create a whisper quiet cabin.

Benefits of this include easier conversations, peaceful environment for working and a feeling more rested on arrival.

Cockpit

When the Legacy 500 was created the technology in the cockpit was next generation. While the technology onboard may not be at the same level of the latest aircraft, it is still current.

Embraer claim that “the Legacy 500 promises its pilots the most sophisticated marriage of technology and ergonomics”. The cockpit is dark and quiet, with the ability to anticipate every need.

Pilot fatigue and workload are kept to an absolute minimum.

Embraer have outfitted the Legacy with a Synthetic Vision System to allow pilots to see what their eyes can’t. The Enhanced Vision and Head Up Display (HUD) offer even more situational awareness.

Embraer Legacy 500 Charter Cost

The estimated price per hour to charter an Embraer Legacy 500 is $4,550 per flight hour. Naturally, prices will vary depending on availability, fuel prices, ground fees and more.
