Cessna Citation M2

The Cessna Citation M2 is the smallest jet in Cessna’s in-production aircraft lineup. The M2 is part of the Cessna CitationJet series of aircraft.

Launched in 1989, the Model 525 first took flight in 1991. One year later FAA certification was received.

Deliveries started two years later.

The basic CitationJet model was further updated into the CJ1 and M2 variants. The CJ1 took a different path to the M2.

The CJ1 was developed into the CJ2, then the CJ2+.

The M2 was launched in September 2011. Cessna based the M2 on the then out-of-production CJ1 variant of the CitationJet family.

Cessna updated the M2 to feature a new cabin layout and more efficient engines. The first prototype flew in 2012 with production starting just one year level.

Since 2013 over 250 M2 aircraft have entered service.

The M2 is marketed by Cessna as the entry-level jet for customers. Customers who are after more speed, more range, and more comfort.

The M2 boasts serious jet performance.

Thanks to its size, the M2 can be operated by a single pilot, making it perfect for customers who are looking for reduced costs or to pilot the aircraft themselves.

The M2 is powered by two rear fuselage-mounted Williams Intl. FJ44-1Ap-21 engines.

Each engine produces 1,965 lbs of thrust. Consequently, the M2 can take off with just 3,210 feet of runway.

The landing distance is a minimum of 2,590 feet.

Range of the Citation M2 is 1,550 Nautical Miles (1,784 Miles / 2,870 KM) when optimized for maximum range. Maximum cruise speed comes in at 404 knots.

Additionally, the M2 can fly at a maximum altitude of 41,000 feet.

The basic operating weight of the M2 is 6,990 lbs (3,171 KG). Maximum Take Off Weight (MTOW) for the aircraft comes in at 10,700 lbs (4,853 KG).

The interior of the M2 is classic Cessna. Compared with the large models, such as the CJ3+ and the CJ4, you would be forgiven for thinking they are the same aircraft.

Of course, there are differences. However, judging solely on interior design, style and materials, the aircraft is clearly related.

The interior of the Cessna aircraft is comfortable and functional.

Starting from the front of the aircraft, the Cessna Citation M2 features a light refreshment center just behind the cockpit.

While you won’t be able to create any Michelin starred meals here, you will be able to enjoy some light snacks during your flight.

Just next to the light refreshment center the standard configuration features a side-facing seat. In place of this seat, customers can instead opt for additional storage.

As a result, four large drawers can be implemented to increase luggage capacity. Moving towards the aft of the aircraft you will find four seats in a club configuration.

These seats are the focus of the cabin.

The seats are fully tracking swing-out seats. In between the seats you will find executive tables that stow away neatly.

Cessna has managed to neatly integrate eight large windows. These windows allow each passenger a great view and bring in a large amount of natural light.

Upfront Cessna has integrated the Garmin G3000 avionics suite into the cockpit.

The G3000 provides user-friendly touch screen displays, with each one providing intuitive control of the aircraft.

Even in Cessna’s smallest jet, they have integrated Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT). The SVT provides a clear, concise picture of the aircraft’s flying environment.

The cockpit is designed with a single pilot in mind.

Therefore, Cessna has made the flight deck as ergonomic as possible, making every control available at a glance.

This ensures that pilots are as efficient as possible with a minimal workload. Consequently, this allows Cessna to achieve the goal of making the aircraft as safe as possible.

It is worth noting that while the M2 can be piloted by just one person, reputable charter operators will always have two pilots in the cockpit. This is to ensure maximum safety.

Please also note that while the aircraft can carry up to six passengers, many charter companies will not permit this. In order to get six passengers in the aircraft one would be belted to the lavatory and the other in the side facing seat.
