Overview & History

The Citation Excel is a combination of Cessna technologies and designs with a shortened Citation X stand-up fuselage and a lengthened Citation V wing. The Excel’s PW545A engines make it faster than the V Ultra and give it a higher MGTOW and a longer range.

The Cessna Citation Excel (Model 560XL) was the original version of the Excel series of aircraft. It was designed to compete in the more traditional twin-turboprop market.

As of March 2016, 80% of the Citation Excel aircraft were purchased pre-owned by their current owners, the other 20% new. 6% are currently for sale with the majority of those (86%) under an exclusive broker agreement.

When for sale, the average number of days on the market is 313.

The Cessna Citation Excel is an American midsize business jet built by Cessna, part of the Citation family. Announced in October 1994, the Model 560XL first flew on February 29, 1996, certification was granted in April 1998 and 1000 have been delivered.

Cessna Citation Excel Performance

The Excel outperforms competing for private jets due in large part to its two Pratt & Whitney PW545 engines. They are designed with a high-pressure core to increase thrust to 3,804 pounds apiece.

Increased airflow through the engine’s core allows the engines to operate at higher temperatures.

A Teflon seal was added to prevent oil leaks, and the single-channel electronic control engine allows the pilot to configure fuel flow at the beginning of the flight and leave the system to do the rest during the flight. Manual fuel control remains available for emergencies.

This private jet can climb to its cruise level in just eighteen minutes and can cruise at 423 ktas. The Excel has a range of 1,907 miles (1,657 nautical miles) with four passengers.

It can take off on runways as short as 3,590 feet – the shortest takeoff distance of any midsized jet.

Cessna Citation Excel Interior

The Citation Excel typically seats up to eight passengers in a comfortable and spacious seating configuration. It can also hold up to eleven passengers in a high-density seating arrangement.

With an impressive 5′ 8″ cabin height and 5′ 6″ cabin width, Excel’s interior specifications are competitive with many larger business jets. Its triple-pane windows and triple-sealed doorway ensure that the cabin remains draft-free and comfortable.

Seating arrangements can be customized to optimize comfort for the desired amount of passengers and each configuration comes standard with retractable worktables and adjustable headrests. The cabin also has over 80 cubic feet of storage space for luggage.

Two air conditioning systems maintain interior temperature regardless of external weather conditions. Although some would consider Excel to have a simplistic design, Cessna specializes in this type of aircraft, prioritizing function, performance, and comfort above unnecessary complexity.

The result is an aircraft that will take you to your destination efficiently and comfortably, without having to pay for excessive pageantry.

Cockpit

As typical with Cessna aircraft, Excel features an intuitive and operator-friendly avionics suite. Its Honeywell Primus 1000 avionics minimize unnecessary workload by limiting navigational information to only a few concise displays.

This provides the pilot with all of the essential instrumentation in a straightforward and seamlessly integrated interface. Many flight systems only need to be manually adjusted by the operator once before they are appropriately monitored automatically for the duration of the trip.

This sleek, efficient interface is a further testament to Cessna’s focus on effective simplicity and as a result, they have produced yet another solid, high-performance aircraft for the cost-conscious private traveler.

Cessna Citation Excel Charter Cost
