blueDAMSEL Bodies
At first glance the blueDAMSEL bodies seem too short and too fat to match the long and very slim body of the natural. But the soft stretchable foam solves the problem by it's ability to stretch. It tales only a few seconds to stroke (not pull) the foam end to end to increase its length and slim it down.

The empty block is used to create a realistic thorax by cutting through the holes and a little trimming with scissors. The thorax provides the needed flotation at the heavy end of this extended body.

We've used deer hair for wings as well as hackle feathers. Wings can be mounted back over the body or in the spent position.

Tying instructions will be found on the inside and back of the label and scrolling down to the photos below will be helpful.

This is the original version with a bucktail wing and legs made of blue Fishhair
A particular bend of a local stream has an abundance of damsel flies with velvety black wings represented here with black hackle feathers.
The clear wings were cut from the edge of a poly bag. The fold serves as the leading edge. The legs are four strands of thread cemented together and tied as shown on the LEGstuff page.
Here is a spent wing version of a blue damsel fly. Bucktail or synthetic fibers can also be used.
Someone sent us this spent wing version of a blue damsel fly. Unfortunately, we can't remember who it was. The wings were made of some sort of twisted plastic cord that was untwisted and flattened. Maybe the stuff called "Zing"? The crinkly material nicely simulates the veining. If anyone recognizes this as their fly, please let us know and we'll give you credit for this nice design.
